Karla has designed residential, public and commercial landscapes on both coasts of the United States since 2006. She is a licensed Landscape Architect in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. Prior to starting Karla Van Duyn Landscape Architecture in 2018, Karla worked with notable design firms Abel Bainnson Butz, Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, and Gunn Landscape Architecture. A graduate of Cornell University, Karla received a Bachelors of Science in the field of Landscape Architecture, while double concentrating in Architecture and Sustainable Development.
Unforgettable landscapes simultaneously enrich their surroundings while evoking emotional response. Intrigued by the juxtaposition of organization within nature, Karla believes that luxury and elegance can seamlessly exist in the landscape, achieved by curation and refinement. Known for her ability to distill each property to the factors that make it unique while overlaying functional programming - the result is a bespoke landscape with a greater sense of place.
While providing exceptional design, Karla understands it is of equal importance to provide a positive client experience. She makes it a priority to include her clients in the design process as much (or as little) as they prefer; and judges the success of a project by her client's satisfaction. Throughout her career, Karla has had the opportunity to work with fabulous architects, interior designers, engineers, and contractors, and she firmly believes that collaboration and communication is key to the success of amazing projects.
